Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally Inc. Donates $50,000 to Sturgis® Rally Charities Foundation

Sturgis, SD - Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally Inc. (SMRi), official stewards of the Sturgis® brand, have announced that they will once again donate $50,000 to Sturgis® Rally Charities Foundation who will in turn distribute that to local charities in and around the Sturgis community. This is the third year in a row that SMRi has made a contribution, all of which have been made possible by community supported licensing agreements that SMRi manages for the Sturgis® brand.

STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis Rally and Events Department is pleased to announce that the 11th Annual Sturgis Mayor's Ride held Monday, August 5th, during the 2013 Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally, raised $11,000 for the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department, $10,000 for the Sturgis Police Department Reserves and $2000 for the Deadwood VFW/Wounded Warriors.

For some, Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally "sponsor" may be a bit of a vague and perplexing term, the meaning of which more often than not seems to be a mystery of sorts.

Attendance up for 73rd Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally

Statistics for the 2013 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally show an increase in both attendance and revenue compared to last year. An estimated 467,338 people attended the Sturgis Rally this year – an increase of 21,000 when compared to the 2012 numbers. The factors used to determine the annually estimated attendance are the Department of Transportation traffic count, Mount Rushmore traffic count, SD sales tax collected, and tons of garbage hauled.

The City of Sturgis will resume garbage service on Wednesday, October 9. The following schedule will take place:
Wednesday – normal Wednesday route.
Thursday - normal Thursday route and also Monday’s route
Friday – normal Friday route along with the Tuesday route

Sturgis, SD Storm Recovery Information and Closings

The City of Sturgis is still digging out from the recent storm. All major streets have at least one lane open and electricity has been restored to most of the area. Some residents have damage to their meters and secondary lines so they are still without power.

Sturgis to Host USA Pro Supermoto Race in downtown Sturgis

For the first time ever, Sturgis will host a USA Pro Supermoto race in downtown Sturgis on September 14 and 15. A Supermoto involves a special track designed for urban racing. The track will feature sections of pavement as well as dirt. Jumps, hairpin turns and straight stretches all provide excitement for both racers and spectators. Professional racers from around the country as well as amateurs will be racing for top prizes.
